Community

Giving back to our communities has been core  to Bacardi since the beginning of the company. Founder and BACARDÍ rum creator Don Facundo Bacardí Massó began this tradition in 1852 when he volunteered as the chief organizer of disaster relief in his hometown of Santiago de Cuba after a horrific earthquake. Don Facundo’s children were inspired by commitment to doing the right thing and would go on to dedicate much of their personal lives to the growth of their local community, leading the establishment of schools, libraries, orphanages, hospitals and even open the first municipal museum in Cuba. As the company grew beyond Cuba to new destinations, the tradition of giving back was passed on to each generation of the family.

Today, we help drive employability through our Shake Your Future and Build Your Future programs. We support the growers and farmers of our natural ingredients. We encourage employees to volunteer time with local organizations and we support the many worthwhile charities in our towns working to better our communities. We maintain the company's long-standing tradition of stepping in to help after natural disasters, making monetary donations to organizations who are providing support and relief for those affected.

Bacardi and Mercy Corps Dive into Puerto Rico Clean Up Efforts
The two dive activities resulted in the collection of 500 pounds of trash, including anchors, fishing sinkers and hooks. Dive teams also removed fishing line that became tangled during the 2017 hurricane season. Not only is the line unsafe for tourists and locals looking for a refreshing swim, but also for hawksbill turtles which live in the area and are on the endangered species list.

Mercy Corps: One Year Since Maria, Puerto Rico Is Back In Business But Deep Wounds Remain
One year after deadly Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, the global organization Mercy Corps is helping the island’s small businesses, farmers and fishermen get back on their feet. With one in three workers in Puerto Rico employed by a small or medium-sized business and 80 percent of the island’s crop value wiped out by the storm, helping business owners generate income and providing tools to fishers and farmers to restore their livelihoods is crucial to the island’s continuing recovery.

Mercy Corps' efforts in Puerto Rico are made possible by the support of Bacardi, BlackRock, Google.org, The Miami Foundation and Walmart. Join us and support Mercy Corps’ work in Puerto Rico and elsewhere in the world.
