The national non-profit Teach for America (TFA) consists of a corps of leaders who commit to teaching in low-income schools and work to increase their students’ opportunities in life to make a meaningful impact. As a community partner with Las Vegas’ local sector, Las Vegas Sands supports this organization to provide high-need schools with diverse leaders. During a welcome dinner at Lagasse’s Stadium at The Palazzo, Las Vegas Sands executives and TFA alumni were able to network, provide opportunities for mentorship, and discuss their experiences in the classroom and around the city with new teachers.
This month, I have the privilege of presenting an award at the Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards, where we at Mars Symbioscience, makers of CocoaVia® dietary supplement, are the lead sponsor for the third year in a row. Marina Bay Sands Team Members brought 40 children from the Dyslexia Association of Singapore and Students Care Service on a fun-filled hospitality career workshop in support of the annual AmCham Corporate Community Day in November. In July 2017, Las Vegas Sands and Clean the World responded to one of the challenges within Las Vegas’ homeless community with the Sands Cares Fresh Start Mobile Showers Powered by Clean the World, a mobile hygiene unit that visits various locations serving the homeless population to provide showers, hygiene supplies, and other resources.

Established on Earth Day 2012, Sands ECO360 partnered with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) to create Club Ride Commuter Services Program. The free program works with employers and commuters to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality and mobility, encouraging the use of commute alternatives, and ultimately create a more sustainable community.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay held an intimate In Conversation With dialogue session at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands for local youth and aspiring young chefs. More than 80 students attended the closed-door session where Ramsay shared personal stories of the challenges he faced as a young man and the lessons that shaped him into the culinary star he is today.
Local families received some extra joy in December thanks to a holiday initiative at Sands Bethlehem. Through a continued partnership with Donegan Elementary, students who were identified as part of a ‘family in need’ were ‘adopted’ by a Sands Bethlehem department.
