Corporate and government leaders from across the globe gathered in San Francisco recently for the Global Climate Action Summit, an event to promote the sharing of ideas and strategies for curbing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.
For Edison International, the summit provided myriad opportunities to introduce an international audience to the company’s vision for a clean energy future and show how that vision can be realized.
Regional transportation as we know it today will be transformed over the next several years as California moves forward to meet its ambitious clean energy goals and improve air quality by 2030.
“The governor has set a goal of 5 million electric vehicles on the road in California by 2030. However, we at Edison believe there should be 7 million electric vehicles on the road to meet the climate goals set for the state,” said Chris Thompson, Southern California Edison vice president for Local Public Affairs.
Republic Services and energy partners Aria Energy and BP celebrated the commissioning of a landfill gas to renewable natural gas (RNG) project located at the Southeast Oklahoma Landfill, outside of Oklahoma City.
According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) calculations, this project directly reduces close to 17,000 tons of methane and avoids the equivalent of more than 40,000K tons of carbon dioxide annually. Simply put, this is the equivalent of removing 1,800 passenger vehicles from the road annually.
Being a steward of our Blue Planet requires responsible landfill management. To us, that involves more than capturing landfill gas — a byproduct of waste decomposition in landfills. It means prioritizing renewable energy opportunities whenever possible, from harnessing landfill gas at active landfills to capturing the power of the sun, and converting previously unused resources into power for homes, businesses, critical infrastructure, and our collection vehicles.
Maturing technologies and a growing emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability are leading organizations to manage more DER than in the past. Bolstered by more financial and mechanical flexibility behind the meter, companies are becoming increasingly energy independent and investing more in alternative generation, storage and energy efficiency.
Running a clean fleet means reducing our footprint. It requires a tremendous amount of technology, commitment and vision — all of which we have relied on to expand our fleet of clean-powered collection vehicles.
Through Sands ECO360, the company’s global sustainability program, Las Vegas Sands’ Integrated Resorts continuously seek opportunities to reduce its environmental footprint and create a greater impact in its local communities. In efforts to further improve energy efficiency, Marina Bay Sands and The Venetian, The Palazzo, and Sands Expo have turned to solar energy.
