Solar Energy Powers Properties in Singapore and Las Vegas

Through Sands ECO360, the company’s global sustainability program, Las Vegas Sands’ Integrated Resorts continuously seek opportunities to reduce its environmental footprint and create a greater impact in its local communities. In efforts to further improve energy efficiency, Marina Bay Sands and The Venetian, The Palazzo, and Sands Expo have turned to solar energy.
In 2017, Marina Bay Sands and solar company Conergy joined together to install a 145 kWp solar power system on top of the Sands SkyPark, the highest location of solar panels in Singapore. The solar panels cover areas of the SkyPark walkway, the roof of the Spago restaurant, and the roofs on the elevator shafts of Tower 1 and Tower 3. The 536 solar panels can generate 187 megawatt-hours of energy per year and are targeted to generate enough energy to power all lighting on the Sands SkyPark. The energy conservation will enable the property to reduce carbon emissions by 70 tons every year.
The Venetian was the first resort on the Las Vegas Strip to adopt on-site renewable energy technologies. There are 680 solar photovoltaic panels on top of the Team Member parking garage, generating 116 kW(DC) of electricity and provides lighting for the garage. In 2017, these panels generated 171,345 kWh of energy, which is equivalent to powering about 13 homes for one year.
Additionally, one of the largest solar-thermal systems in the country is located on top of the Venetian Congress Center, which provides hot water for all swimming pools, spas, and a portion of the kitchens and hotel tower. Since 2014, these systems have generated 1,874,483 kWh—equal to powering 151 homes for a year!
