Philippines Taps Innovative Wastewater Technology to Retrofit Infrastructure, Fulfill Tightened Environmental Regulations

Manila Water Company, Inc. (MWCI) has entrusted Black & Veatch to train its professionals and water industry partners in the finer points of biological nutrient removal (BNR) in wastewater treatment.

Dr. James Barnard, a Global Practice and Technology Leader for Black & Veatch’s water business, and Dr. Andrew Shaw, Associate Vice President at Black & Veatch, led the knowledge transfer session. Dr. Barnard was the 2011 winner of the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize.

Pepsico Funded Job Resource Center for Homeless Women Officially Opens at South Bronx Shelter

Last week, PepsiCo employees hosted a workshop for women living in Win’s (formerly Women in Need) South Bronx shelter to help them with resume writing, interviewing and other job search skills. The workshop was held in a new job resource center at the site, which was funded by the PepsiCo Foundation. The Foundation’s grant enabled Win to purchase new computers, hire job specialists and create a dedicated space for residents to focus on finding employment.

The US Department of Education’s Reimagining the Higher Education Ecosystem Challenge #EDU2030 Challenge set out to match big thinking with actionable projects. JetBlue and its employer-sponsored college degree program – JetBlue Scholars – was recently named a winner of this challenge. Last fall the US Department of Education called upon educators, students, policymakers, industry leaders, technology developers, and the public to develop bold ideas to reimagine what the higher education ecosystem will look like in 2030, and to identify concrete actions. Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation Gives Kids a Head Start in the Garden
