Albertsons Companies Celebrates International Women's Day
March 8th is International Women’s Day, and while this day means different things to different people, it’s often seen as a time to reflect on progress and celebrate as women continue to make meaningful contributions to social, economic, cultural, and political achievements worldwide. At Albertsons Companies (which includes our 18 banners such as Albertsons, Safeway, ACME, and others), we strongly support qualified women-owned businesses and a diverse supplier base.

In addition to traditional roses, we also offer a variety of popular mixed flower bouquets as well as fresh cut tulips and lilies. It’s a brand new year and you know what that means – it’s time to commit to a new resolution. While some of us are guilty of going all in for a few weeks before pretending like we never made a resolution in the first place, we want to help YOU start fresh this year. That’s where Fresh Start Fridays enters the picture. Every Friday throughout the month of January, look for a “fresh,” yet delicious recipe idea from nutrition expert Annessa Chumbley or recipes using O Organics products. Visit our Facebook and Twitter channels for updated recipe ideas every week.

Albertsons Companies Builds on Commitment to Source Sustainable Palm Oil
Palm oil is one of the most widely used vegetable oils, accounting for ~65% of all vegetable oil traded internationally. It can be found in thousands of products, from food items like baked goods and ice cream to personal care products such as cosmetics, shampoos and detergents. Palm oil is derived from the fruit of oil palm trees which are found in tropical regions such as Indonesia and Malaysia. However, oil palm plantations can also have adverse environmental impact such as destruction of tropical forests to plant oil palm trees, and social impacts that affect the health and well-being of the local people if not properly managed. This is why Albertsons Companies has made it a priority to source from suppliers that use certified sustainably sourced palm oil for its Own Brand products.

Albertsons Companies Celebrates Safeway's Year-end 2015 Commitment for Responsibly Sourced Seafood
We are proud to announce that as of year-end 2015, 77% of Safeway’s fresh and frozen seafood and 99% of private label frozen packaged seafood met our Responsible Sourcing Commitment. Since setting this ambitious goal in 2010, Safeway (including Carrs, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Vons, and Pavilions) has transitioned over 29 million pounds of seafood to environmentally responsible sources. To help reach this major milestone, we partnered with FishWise, an environmental non-profit that promotes the health and recovery of ocean ecosystems through environmentally and socially responsible business practices.

Celebrate Human Rights Day with a Cup of Fair Trade Certified O Organics Coffee
Human Rights Day is celebrated internationally each year on December 10th to commemorate the day in 1948 when the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This declaration was a milestone in recognizing fundamental human rights to be universally protected, such as the right to free choice of employment or the right to education. Why not celebrate Human Rights Day everyday by purchasing Fair Trade Certified products at your favorite local supermarket?
