Throughout the fall and winter, Astellas sponsored a total of 62 Changing Tomorrow Day volunteer events for field-based employees across the United States to unite and support families staying at Ronald McDonald Houses (RMH) to be near their hospitalized children. Many of the volunteers cooked meals from scratch to provide comfort and nutrition to the patients’ families, while other teams helped clean the houses to meet the needs of each RMH chapter.
For the second consecutive year, Astellas employees used the company’s Volunteer Time Off program to volunteer at the 2018 Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games where Astellas also supported the event by providing meals for the athletes. More than 50 employees, family and friends gathered at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and helped staff the information booth, access and family-point-of-contact areas and medal ceremonies to make the event as successful and rewarding as possible for athletes and their families.
Over Memorial Day weekend this year, 70 Booz Allen Hamilton employees volunteered their time to help out with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS)’ National Military Survivor Seminar and National Field Day USA, held in Washington, DC. TAPS’ mission is to offer compassionate care to those grieving the loss of a military loved one through a national peer support network and access to grief resources. The non-profit’s Youth Programs, including the seminar and camp held this Memorial Day, provide safe spaces for children who have lost a military parent or sibling to explore grief and embrace healing.
The word “sustainability” doesn’t give too many farmers the warm fuzzies, admits Margaret Henry, PepsiCo director of sustainable agriculture. She gets it. Henry grew up on a Kentucky dairy farm.
But here’s why she thinks the concept is important: In her view, it allows the food system to speak with a common language that resonates with consumers. If used properly, it instills confidence that farmers and their food-system partners are conserving natural resources.
We selected 12 companies with reputations for having solid pro bono programs. We interviewed both the company and one of its nonprofit partners. After the interviews, we had to admit that we hadn’t uncovered anything particularly innovative. But we did find a lot to be excited about.
