The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) And Lightbox Announce Partnership to Foster Diversity in Documentary Filmmaking

The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) and Lightbox, a multi-platform media company focused on creating high quality non-fiction programming for film, television and digital platforms, announced they will collaborate on a new initiative to foster diversity in the feature documentary arena. Selected films will be developed and produced by Lightbox and the newly formed ABFF Films division and executive produced by ABFF Ventures CEO Jeff Friday and Lightbox co-founders Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn. The first of the ABFF’s annual Feature Documentary Competition is being co-sponsored by National Geographic and 21st Century Fox, who will fully fund the development of the selected films.

Keep Phoenix Beautiful Launches Crowd Fundraiser for New Community Garden

A new garden is coming to life in Phoenix! Keep Phoenix Beautiful is launching a crowdsourcing campaign to raise $25,000 for their new Keep Phoenix Beautiful Community Garden. Funds raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Keep America Beautiful and Lowe’s, up to $25,000, bringing the potential total amount to invest in sustainable practices here in Central Phoenix and nationwide to $50,000. HPE Awarded for Innovation and Corporate Citizenship

This week, HPE took home two awards that recognized the company’s innovative initiatives and its ongoing efforts in the community. On Monday, HPE won the Global Grand Prize for Innovation at the ISPIM Innovation Conference in Vienna for the Living Progress Challenge, and on Wednesday, Civic 50 announced that HPE is on its list of the 50 most community-minded companies in the United States.

Lessons for Funders Supporting LGBTQ Communities

FSG’s Efrain Gutierrez recently presented in front of more than 200 grantmakers committed to LGBTQ issues in Seattle, WA, as a part of the Pacific Northwest Plenary for Funding Forward 2017, a conference organized by Funders for LGBTQ Issues (FSG is a proud member). While the session focused on supporting LGBTQ communities in the Pacific Northwest, funders in the U.S. and abroad can apply the lessons from our discussion to support LGBTQ communities more intentionally.

JetBlue's Technical Operations Team Builds Bikes for Kids in Foster Care

Last month, JetBlue honored the memory of Charles E. Taylor, the father of aviation maintenance, with celebrations at its 11 maintenance facilities and New York City Support Center. In the second annual JetBlue For Good Bike Build, JetBlue’s Technical Operations and Corporate Social Responsibility teams partnered to build 275 bikes that were donated to children in the foster care system. JetBlue crewmembers are aiming to build and donate 500 bikes next year.

City Accelerator Expands to Five More U.S. Cities With a Focus on Strengthening Local Procurement Practices to Promote Economic Opportunity

The Citi Foundation and Living Cities today announced the expansion of the City Accelerator program to five additional U.S. cities – Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, Memphis, and Milwaukee. The five cities will work together over the next year to refine their approach to procurement spending, pursuing at least one new strategy to increase the diversity of municipal vendors and contractors and direct more spend to local minority-owned businesses.
