Sustainability Strategist Steven Kooy Joins SCS Global Services
SCS Global Services (SCS), a trusted leader in third-party certification of environmental and sustainability achievements, is pleased to welcome Steven Kooy as its new Director of Sales and Marketing for Environmental Certification Services. In this role, he will help the company expand its reach as one of the dominant international third-party certifiers of green building products, furniture, textiles, conflict-free minerals and metals, environmental and health product declarations.
Kooy comes to SCS from Haworth Inc., the furniture and commercial interiors giant, where he built a long and successful career, most recently as head of corporate sustainability and open innovation. During his years at Haworth, he built the company’s sustainability team to include LCA modeling, FSC program management, and material/chemical assessment with global reach, and launched an aggressive program to remove materials of concern including PVC, several heavy metals, and selected adhesives and flame retardants. He also led the effort to have Haworth’s Pune India, Zurich, and Los Angeles showrooms LEED certified. Prior to working for Haworth, Kooy was a commercial construction project manager, and an Environmental Engineer for Steelcase, Inc., managing the environmental auditing and recycling programs.

Kooy is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an environmental concentration. He is also LEED AP certified. He has spoken at a wide range of green building related conferences, panels, and educational events around the world, including the United States, Central and South America, Australia and China.
