When it comes to the design, construction, and maintenance of Norfolk Southern’s nearly 10,000 railroad bridges, there’s a lot more than meets the eye.
Safety is priority No. 1. “We have over 300 miles of bridges, and we care about every foot, literally,” says Jim Carter, NS chief engineer bridge and structures. “Norfolk Southern has a huge investment in the safety of our bridges from the standpoint of our employees and from the standpoint of the general public. We understand that, and we take it very seriously.”
