Our Conflict Minerals Data Solution recognized with Oracle Excellence Award

Qualcomm has been committed to responsibly sourcing conflict minerals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and surrounding areas for more than six years. We published our first Conflict Free Minerals Policy in 2010 and have filed a Conflict Minerals Report with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (US SEC) annually since 2013. For compliance year 2015, we reported that 96% of the known smelters in our semiconductor supply chain were DRC conflict-free.
To tackle the complex requirements of tracing tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold in our products and supply chain to their countries of origin, our brightest minds built a comprehensive and custom Conflict Minerals Data Tool (CMDT) solution that utilizes Oracle tools. Launched in 2014, the CMDT solution has been a key element of our program’s success. We are thrilled that our conflict minerals team and data solution have been recognized with the Oracle Excellence Award in Sustainability Innovation. Our conflict minerals team was presented with this prestigious award at the annual Oracle OpenWorld event in San Francisco, CA on September 21, 2016.
Today, our CMDT solution successfully meets critical legal requirements, improves program efficiency, and helps Qualcomm maintain a leading industry position for conflict minerals due diligence and responsible sourcing.
Our custom conflict minerals platform allows our compliance program to maintain unparalleled data quality and robust supplier reporting. The solution utilizes the electronic industry’s electronic data exchange standard (IPC-1755) and collects supplier due diligence and smelter data while providing complex data analysis so we can report on country of origin of our conflict minerals to the US SEC. The CMDT solution utilizes Oracle’s Business Intelligence platform to track and automatically report on important supplier information — such as whether they maintain their own conflict minerals policy and require their suppliers to be DRC conflict-free — and provides countries of origin of the minerals in our supply chain, such as from the DRC or an adjoining country.
Oracle Executive Vice-Chairman of the Board Jeff Henley presented Qualcomm’s team with the award alongside other well deserved companies. Each year, Oracle receives hundreds of submissions from hundreds of countries across the various award categories and Qualcomm is proud to be recognized alongside past and present winners of the Sustainability Innovation award.
