One ‘Can’ Make a Difference – KFC South Africa Celebrates Nelson Mandela Day
Yum! Global Newsroom | Community
Since 2009, July 18 has been recognized around the globe as Nelson Mandela Day. The official United Nations holiday, also Mandela’s birthday, honors the humanitarian’s lifetime achievements and service not only in South Africa, but throughout the world. It is a day to reflect on what we have done and what we can continue to do to make the world a better place.
This year, in celebration of Nelson Mandela Day, KFC South Africa is hosting its One ‘Can’ Make a Difference event on its corporate campus. Employees will have the opportunity to participate in a can-struction activity, where donated canned goods will be made into an art installation before being packed up and distributed to Add Hope beneficiaries in order to feed those in need.
KFC South Africa’s goal is to reach 670 cans and pack them for distribution in under 67 minutes—a tribute to Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of service when the holiday was established.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation encourages global citizens to take action—no matter how big or small—and live every day as Nelson Mandela Day.
