KFC South Africa Shares Random Acts of Kindness
Yum! Global Newsroom: Community
KFC South Africa shared random acts of kindness as part of the International day of ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ on February 17th, 2015. In a heart-warming video the team shared via social media using #RAK15, the KFC team is shown reaching out to three families in need. The social post attracted nearly 10,000 views resulting in increased awareness of KFC’s efforts across South Africa.
KFC’s CSR’s initiative, Add Hope, identified three families in Johannesburg who were in need of extensive support, and shared a plan to make their lives easier by providing a helping hand of kindness to make a difference at their home and for their family. As part of the ongoing initiative to provide food to children, Add Hope gave away essential food parcels to the three families, and will continue to assist them for the rest of the year, with monthly groceries.
The Sithole family is featured in the video below. The family lives in Itsoseng, just outside Johannesburg. There are 9 children in this family, who are cared for by Nomsando, who is only 24. The #RAK15 campaign is headed by well-known social and media influencer in South Africa, Brent Lindique, who led the way in last year’s international trending campaign #ChangeOneThing. This year #RAK15 was also supported by the controversial and acclaimed local news show, Carte Blanche, and many other well-known local celebrities and everyday South Africans.
In the spirit of the #RAK15 campaign, KFC nominated Pick ‘n Pay to be a partner by donating food parcels to children in South Africa in efforts to ensure a better future and brighter hopes for South Africa’s youth.
