In support of World Hunger Day on May 28, the KFC South Africa team launched the Add Hope “Bowl of Hope” exhibition. The giant bowl is a representation of the meals provided by Add Hope. Visitors were encouraged to donate their R2 into the bowl to help make a difference for the 100,000 children Add Hope feeds each day. The exhibition featured boards displaying information about the 100 beneficiaries Add Hope supports, detailing where customers’ R2 goes.
Add Hope beneficiaries and children, KFC staff, local media, special guests and South African celebrities attended a launch event held in Johannesburg on May 27 to reveal and celebrate the “Bowl of Hope” exhibition.
“At KFC, we truly believe that every day should include a nutritious meal to nourish and support a child’s development. We have been committed to the plight of hunger since launching our Add Hope initiative in 2009,” said KFC South Africa’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mike Middleton.
Two inspiring young adults, Luyanda and Sihanziwe, from the beneficiary; Afrika Tikunn, shared their ‘cradle to career’ stories at the launch event, detailing how their lives had been transformed through the support of Afrika Tikkun and the nutritious meals provided by Add Hope.
Over a period of four days, from May 28-31 the giant sized Add Hope “Bowl of Hope” was showcased to allow South Africans the opportunity to actively participate in adding hope and making a difference, by donating their R2 and making a wish of hope for the 100,000 children Add Hope feeds. The showcase raised a total amount of R25 700 from public contributions.
Since the inception of Add Hope in 2009, KFC has raised a total of R263 million (21,457,302 USD) to feed children nutritious meals daily. In 2014 alone Add Hope raised a total of R54 million (4,405,682 USAD).
