Hewlett Packard Enterprise Recognized as World Leader for Corporate Action on Climate Change
PALO ALTO, Calif., October 25, 2016 /3BL Media/ – For the third consecutive year, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has been identified as a global leader for its actions and strategies in response to climate change and has earned a position on the 2016 Climate A List by CDP, the international non-for-profit that drives sustainable economies.
This distinction recognizes HPE for its actions to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change in the previous reporting year. The CDP reporting period is based on data prior to Hewlett-Packard Company separating into two publicly traded companies on Nov. 1, 2015, therefore Hewlett Packard Enterprise and HP Inc. share this honor.
“Climate change is one of the most difficult challenges facing society today, making it a crucial issue for business to help address,” said HPE’s chief sustainability officer Lara Birkes. “I am proud that Hewlett Packard Enterprise was named to the Climate A List by CDP for the third consecutive year, and hope more and more companies will become leaders in the transition to a low-carbon economy.”
HPE was one of 193 companies awarded a position on the 2016 Climate A List by CDP. The Climate A List has been produced at the request of 827 investors who represent more than a third of the world’s invested capital, with thousands of companies submitting annual climate disclosures to CDP for independent assessment against its scoring methodology. HPE was among only 9 percent of the corporations participating in CDP’s climate change program to be awarded a position on the Climate A List.
“We congratulate the 193 A List companies that are leading the charge towards our low carbon future,” said CDP’s chief executive officer Paul Simpson. “Companies are key actors in enabling the global economy to achieve its new climate goals, and the leadership of this group points the way for others to take bold action and capitalize on the many opportunities that await.”
Additionally, HPE was honored for its sustainability efforts and named the industry leader in the Computers & Peripherals and Office Electronics Industry on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World index. HPE was one of only 24 companies worldwide to be named an industry leader, with the highest industry score globally in five DJSI sections: Corporate Governance, Innovation Management, Corporate Citizenship & Philanthropy, Digital Inclusion and Labor Practice Indicators and Human Rights. This was the first year that HPE was named an Industry Leader, and the fifth consecutive year the company has been on the DJSI Global Index.
The DJSI, launched in 1999, are a family of indices evaluating the sustainability performance of the largest 3,400 companies listed on the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index. Performance is evaluated in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria and the indices serve as benchmarks for investors who integrate sustainability metrics into their portfolios.
