GM Recognized for Biodiesel Innovation

The National Biodiesel Board honored GM with this year’s Innovation Award for the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel. Each year the Innovation Award goes to the individual, organization or company with the best idea, new product, research results, invention or marketing strategy to further biodiesel.

The Cruze Diesel is the cleanest diesel passenger car we have ever produced, and it’s the first diesel passenger sedan in the U.S. to support the use of B20 biodiesel blends.

B20 fuel is a blend of 20-percent biodiesel and 80-percent conventional diesel, which helps lower carbon dioxide emissions and lessens dependence on petroleum. Clean diesels generate at least 90 percent less Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and particulate emissions when compared to previous-generation diesels.

The Cruze Diesel delivers an industry best EPA-estimated 46 MPG on the highway – better than any non-hybrid passenger car in America. It can travel 717 miles on a single tank – or about 10 hours of highway driving.

Biodiesels are one component of our advanced propulsion strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of driving. Increased production of electric vehicles, improved efficiency in gas engines, vehicles powered by alternative fuels such as compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) – all are part of a diverse strategy for customers with diverse needs.

And we will continue to innovate on vehicles like the Chevy Cruze Diesel to meet those needs.
