Barter and Trade Week 2013 Sets A Record for Participation

Kingsey Falls, October 30, 2013 /3BL Media/ – The third edition of Barter and Trade Week, which took place from October 21 to 27, was a huge success. Organized by Cascades together with the town of Kingsey Falls, the event attracted 748 visitors from the region—twice as many as last year! In all, more than 6 000 items of all sorts were brought in to be swapped, and approximately 4 700 of them found new owners.

Quebec Waste Reduction Week, a province-wide celebration, was the ideal time to hold the event, since it places reusing at the forefront, and promotes sustainable waste management. Items that could no longer be used were recycled or sent to the ecocentre, as was the case for obsolete electronics. In addition, some 1 000 items that didn't find new homes but were in good condition were donated to local organizations, including La Ressourcerie in Asbestos, the Centre d’Entraide Contact in Warwick and the Fédération des Œuvres de Charité in Danville.

The event was a success, in large part thanks to the hard work of numerous volunteers. Cascades hopes that Barter and Trade Week will continue to grow, and eventually reach other communities, inspiring them to organize similar activities.

Quebec Waste Reduction Week is organized by the non-profit organization Action RE-buts and its major partner Recyc-Québec. The event aims to raise awareness among Quebecers about sound waste management, and to propose concrete alternatives. In addition to providing financial support for the organization's activities, Cascades helps the group to reduce its ecological footprint by providing them with eco-friendly products.
