ICMM presents summary of recent Lao PDR country case study

(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) September 1, 2011 - A new InBrief that outlines the key findings of ICMM’s recent Lao PDR report has been launched today. 

This concise paper highlights a number of significant contributions that mining is making to local and national development outcomes in Lao PDR.

InBrief: Utilizing mining and mineral resources to foster the sustainable development of the LAO PDR concludes that mining has the potential to bring great benefits to this resource rich country.

The document also reveals key challenges: the need for sound micro-economic management and improved transparency; more supportive business environments; addressing diversity and gender issues.

The Lao PDR report is ICMM’s fifth country case study on the economic and social contribution of mining. Earlier studies were carried out in Ghana, Tanzania, Chile and Peru, all of which applied the Mining: Partnerships for Development Toolkit.
