Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area Garners Nearly $62 Million in Pledges for Charities in 2012
ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 14, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Federal workers pledged more than $61.6 million through the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) in 2012, officials announced today at the campaign finale event held at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. This figure represents 99.4 percent of the campaign’s original goal of $62 million.
“This year’s success is a testament to the resounding spirit of the Federal workforce and their commitment to helping individuals and communities in need,” said Local Federal Coordinating Committee Chair Dr. Brandon Haller of the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
Federal workers pledged funds to nearly 4,500 participating local, national and international charities. “Despite difficult economic times and other increasing pressures on the Federal workforce, the campaign was able to meet its goal—supporting people, communities and causes around the world,” said Haller.
The finale event was attended by nearly 500 Campaign Workers who represent the donors, Federal agencies and departments that participate in the campaign. Campaign Workers were recognized for their dedication to the campaign during the awards portion of the program.
To illustrate best practices, Federal departments and agencies recognized at the event included the 22 members of the Million Dollar Circle, whose employees contributed more than $1 million to the campaign. In addition, the CFCNCA recognized 35 departments and agencies with the Summit Award for increasing giving by at least 3 percent over last year’s campaign, and 30 departments for increasing giving by 2 percent.
The Department of Defense (DoD) was the largest donor group in 2012. DoD employees pledged more than $15.2 million to CFCNCA charities, followed by employees of the Department of Health and Human Services, who gave more than $5.9 million.
“We are very grateful for the continued support of Federal workers who give through the CFCNCA,” said Dr. Haller. “On behalf of the charities and beneficiaries, I want to thank each and every Federal worker who participated in the campaign, as well as the thousands of Campaign Workers and Federal leaders who made this possible.”
