CITGO Supports STEM Education

Through the CITGO STEM Talent Pipeline, we actively support the academic exploration of STEM education in the schools near our Houston-based headquarters and refineries. Six CITGO Innovation Academy locations, 40 STEM partners and scholarship awards reach more than 35,000 students & educators.

The STEM Talent Pipeline provides grants to schools and educational organizations to support programs that increase student interest, retention and graduation rates; particularly at the elementary, high school and post-secondary levels. The program supports organizations that prepare students for STEM courses at technical institutions and universities.

Fifteen college-bound students from three Lemont area high schools were awarded a CITGO Fueling Education Scholarship for excellence in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The students received their award from Peter Collarelli, Government and Public Affairs Manager and were recognized by their peers during a school assembly.

CITGO Brightens Future for Alief ISD Students with STEM Scholarships
Fifteen graduating seniors from five area high schools earned scholarships from CITGO Petroleum Corporation to help them pursue higher degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), thanks to a partnership between CITGO and the Alief Independent School District (ISD). Support from CITGO for Alief ISD students is part of the larger CITGO STEM Scholarship program, which provides funds for high-achieving students in public schools across the Houston area.

CITGO Announces Winners of Fourth Annual Fueling Education Program
CITGO Petroleum Corporation awarded 102 elementary and middle school teachers this week as the winners of its fourth annual Fueling Education Program. The teachers received prizes related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to benefit their students in grades K-8 and help enhance programming in their schools, located in the Northeast, Central and Southern regions of the United States.

Twenty Houston-area students are one step closer to a college education thanks to financial aid provided by CITGO Petroleum Corporation through the new CITGO STEM Scholarship. CITGO Lemont Refinery Promotes STEM Education in Illinois with Project Infinite Green
CITGO Petroleum Corporation employees from the Lemont Refinery served as mentors teaching interactive workshops on diverse energy sources and sustainability to local middle and high school students as part of Project Infinite Green. This innovative, locally based afterschool program offered middle- and high-school students the opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) from industry experts both inside and out of the classroom.

CITGO Petroleum Corporation invites elementary and middle school teachers to enter its fourth annual Fueling Education Program, focusing on the importance of engaging young students in the subjects of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Through April 30, teachers in grades K – 8 are encouraged to visit www.fuelingeducation.com for the chance to win STEM-related prizes to benefit their classrooms and schools, including the Grand Prize of an in-school teacher training session with ‘America’s Science Teacher,’ best-selling author, and Emmy-award winning television personality, Steve Spangler.

More than 30 Chicago-area educators recently gathered at the CITGO Petroleum Corp. Lemont Refinery to take part in the Nautilus Exploration Program CITGO STEM Academy. Funded by CITGO, the free, day-long program provided a unique opportunity for local educators to learn more about deep-ocean exploration, network with their peers and partake in a variety of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)-related activities.
