CITGO Fuels a Win with Red Sox Foundation

Red Sox fans have something else to cheer about now that the Red Sox Foundation and CITGO, along with its local branded Marketers and Retailers, are joining forces to further help underserved youth in the Boston area. With a $2,500 donation of CITGO Gift Cards, the foundation can now provide transportation for youth involved in its two key efforts - the Red Sox Scholars Program, which has awarded 250 students with college scholarships since inception in 2003, and the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program aimed toward teaching at-risk children about non-violent conflict resolution, resistance to drugs and alcohol, health and fitness, and educational achievement through the game of baseball.

Aramark and Congreso Improve Health and Wellness of Philadelphia Families

Throughout Philadelphia, adults and children face many challenges to eating nutritious foods and living healthy lives. Many of the preventable diseases plaguing this community, like diabetes, are associated with obesity. In the area served by Congreso, one of the city’s largest multi-service organizations for the Hispanic community, 37.1% of adults and 39.8% of children six and older were reported as overweight or obese in a 2012 survey by Public Health Management Corporation.

Microsoft Expands Global YouthSpark Initiative to Focus on Computer Science

Microsoft Corp. announced on Wednesday a new commitment of $75 million in community investments over the next three years to increase access to computer science education for all youth, and especially for those from under-represented backgrounds. Through the company’s global YouthSpark initiative, scores of nonprofit organizations around the world will receive cash donations and other resources to provide computer science education to diverse populations of young people in their communities and prepare them with the computational-thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for success in an increasingly digital world.

Republic Services of Southern Nevada Recycling Education

Republic Services of Southern Nevada was proud to present the City of Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen and City Council members with a check to support recycling education for Clark County School District - Henderson schools. The funds will support the development of the Desert Research Institute (DRI) Green Box Program providing recycling education tools, resources and curriculum to local schools.

Students Visit Republic Services Old Dominion Landfill

The group found the Ash Processing facility very interesting, specifically watching the conveyor belts form the incinerated ash into stone. One student told the Landfill Ops Manager that was the coolest thing he had seen all summer. The group also enjoyed watching the tractor trailers dispose of the waste. When asked how long the students thought it would take to unload the tractor trailer, answers ranged anywhere from three days to three minutes. The tour of the Old Dominion Landfill facility concluded with sack lunches and Q&A. Republic’s landfill tours are educational, engaging and fun.
