Green Mountain Energy Adds Solar Energy at Three Texas State Parks

Green Mountain Energy and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) today announced the completion of solar installations at three state parks across Texas as part of their long-standing sustainability partnership.

Park visitors can now experience the benefits of solar energy whether they are comparing shoe sizes to actual dinosaur tracks at Dinosaur Valley State Park, enjoying the spectacular South Texas wildlife at Estero Llano Grande State Park or camping near the Red River at Eisenhower State Park.

Duke Energy Renewables Constructs 200-MW Mesteño Wind Project in Texas

Duke Energy Renewables, a commercial business unit of Duke Energy, today announced it will build, own and operate a 200-megawatt (MW) wind project – Mesteño – in Starr County, Texas. The project’s output will be sold into the ERCOT market and Duke Energy Renewables will enter into a long-term hedge agreement covering the majority of the expected wind energy production.

A Decade of Impact: Bloomberg LP Improves Energy Efficiency by 45%, Avoids Using More Than 1 Million Metric Tonnes of CO2 Emissions

Bloomberg LP’s sustainable business practices have improved the company’s energy efficiency by 45% since 2008, avoiding more than 1 million metric tonnes of CO2e emissions, according to the company’s 10th annual Impact Report released today. Bloomberg is on target to reach 35% renewable energy use in 2020, continuing on its path of 100% renewable energy by 2025.

Hormel Foods to Become Powered by Nearly 50 Percent Renewable Energy

The new wind farm will be located near Milligan, Nebraska. Construction is expected to be completed in 2020. The farm will be capable of 74 MW of power and an estimated 349,000 MWh of electricity each year. Hormel Foods partnered with Kinect Energy Group to assess the project and negotiate the agreement. In addition to this agreement, Hormel Foods also supports the renewable energy markets by subscribing to community solar gardens at five manufacturing locations, including a co-sponsorship with Westar Energy for its first community solar garden near Wichita, Kan., where the company manufactures most of its Hormel® Natural Choice® bacon products.

DSM Sets Science-based Reduction Targets for Emissions

DSM has committed to reducing 30% of its greenhouse gas emissions from direct production and purchased energy in absolute terms by 2030 compared to 2016. DSM will decouple emissions from its growth through energy efficiency measures and sourcing more renewable electricity. As a complementary target, DSM will be purchasing 75% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030, with 41% already being renewable in 2018. On top of this, DSM applies an internal carbon price of €50 per ton of CO2 to further guide its investments and operational decisions towards low carbon operations.
