As FOX prepares for the September 23 premiere of Empire's second season, the network is partnering with the nonprofit Notes for Notes for a new initiative entitled "FOX PRESENTS EMPIRE Behind the Beat." As we clambered out of the bus, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Amgen Symposium which was taking place over the next few days. I had already spent the previous four weeks as an Amgen Scholar at Caltech getting to know my compatriots there, but this was new territory on another campus and with every Amgen Scholar in the country.
Individuals with degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines have no shortage of job opportunities. However, the majority of STEM fields - including teaching - continue to be disproportionately comprised of individuals who are Caucasian and come from backgrounds with higher income levels.
