Workplace Mental Health Top Priority for AHA Roundtable, Booz Allen
Despite the fact that roughly one in five U.S. adults experience mental illness in any given year1, many will not disclose to their employers that they suffer from a mental health disorder for fear of being stigmatized2.
On World Mental Health Day (October 10), workplace mental health topped the agenda of the American Heart Association (AHA) CEO Roundtable. According to a Harris survey conducted for the CEO Roundtable, 76 percent of U.S. employees have dealt with issues that negatively impacted their mental health, and nearly all (96 percent) agree that mental health is as important as physical health.
The CEO Roundtable includes 44 CEOs from some of America’s largest companies, including Booz Allen’s CEO Horacio Rozanski, representing nearly 10 million employees and family members. Members test, evaluate, and share information about the best approaches to workplace health, with the goal of improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent by 2020. For many people, mental health and physical health are interrelated. For example, those who suffer from a chronic disease are more likely to also suffer from depression3.
Booz Allen has been involved with the CEO Roundtable since its founding in 2014. In August 2018, Booz Allen achieved Gold Level Recognition (up from Bronze in 2016) in the AHA Workplace Health Achievement Index for building a culture of health in the workplace.
