Visa Supports Famine Response Initiative

In response to the major humanitarian crisis continuing to unfold in Africa, eight leading U.S.-based international relief organizations have joined together for the first time for “America Takes Action,” a campaign to raise awareness and funds among U.S. consumers to support emergency response efforts. Visa, in conjunction with our clients, will be supporting this initiative by waiving fees and donating its revenue from contributions made by U.S. cardholders to the coalition’s Hunger Relief Fund during the July 17-28 campaign.

According to the coalition, which includes members such as CARE, Mercy Corps, World Vision, Oxfam, Save the Children, the famine crisis in Africa may be the largest humanitarian crisis in the world since 1945. More than 20 million people face starvation in the coming months, and nearly 1.4 million severely malnourished children could die.

As a company committed to being a good corporate citizen in our global and local communities alike, Visa responds to major humanitarian crises such as this famine. In addition to waiving fees and donating its revenue during the America Takes Action campaign, Visa also committed $100,000 in contributions to famine relief efforts earlier in 2017.
