Univision and Fusion Follow Lives of Four Hispanic Families in Year-Long Effort to Close the Education Achievement Gap
“Camino al Éxito” (Path to Success) Kicks-Off with Bilingual TV Specials and Digital Hub
NEW YORK, September 13, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) and FUSION, in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, today announced their continued partnership and the launch of “Camino al Éxito” (Path to Success), a year-long, multi-platform campaign that aims to help reduce the educational achievement gap among Hispanic students in the United States. “Camino al Éxito” follows four Hispanic families over the course of an entire school year as they face important decisions on how to support, guide and advocate for their children. Throughout the year, audiences will get to know the families as they navigate critical points in their children’s educational journeys, including preparing to enter the fourth grade, transitioning from middle school to high school, applying to college, graduating from high school, and working to complete college, among others.
“Storytelling can be a powerful way to empower audiences and we hope that by sharing the stories of these four families we will inspire parents, loved ones, mentors and educators to be proactive about helping the young people in their lives achieve greater success, whether that’s in kindergarten, college or beyond,” said Chad Boettcher, SVP, Social Impact & Managing Director of Rise Up. ‘Camino al Éxito’ is an example of how our platforms, including Univision News, Univision Digital, FUSION and the broader Fusion Media Group are able to come together to provide an in-depth look at the issues our community cares about the most.”
The initiative will leverage FUSION, Univision News and Univision Digital, as well as community events organized by Univision Local Media, to increase awareness among Hispanic parents of key risk transition points in the education system and provide resources focused on creating opportunities for their children’s academic success. “Camino al Éxito” seeks to ensure that, regardless of location, socioeconomic background or primary language spoken at home, Hispanic students are academically prepared to succeed in school and in life. It kicked off during Univision’s wider back-to-school campaign “Regresa a Clases con Univision.”
Each week “Camino al Éxito” segments will air on “Noticiero Univision Fin de Semana,” highlighting the families and their stories: Rompiendo las Barreras de Lenguaje (Breaking the Language Barrier); Los Niños Invisibles (The Invisible Children); Logrando el Sueño (Achieving the Dream); and Enfrentando los Retos (Beating the Odds). Additionally, FUSION and Univision News will each air hour-long specials later this year to provide an in-depth look at the families and their stories. Extended content, education-related news, videos, tools and resources will be available on the campaign’s dedicated digital page.
