Brussels, June 8, 2017 /3BL Media/ – Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, announced today its entire European portfolio of water-cooled XStream™ and air-cooled Sintesis™ chillers is now available to purchase with Honeywell Solstice® ze (R-1234ze), a next-generation refrigerant with near-zero global warming potential (GWP).

With this announcement, Trane will be the first in the industry to offer a combined portfolio of screw compressor chillers and high- and low-speed centrifugal chillers with a near-zero GWP refrigerant option. The new solutions will be part of the Ingersoll Rand EcoWise™ portfolio of products designed to lower their environmental impact with next-generation, low-GWP refrigerants and high-efficiency operation. Building owners can use these products to help reach sustainability goals without sacrificing safety, efficiency or reliability as the new portfolio has industry-leading efficiencies and temperature reach for both cooling and heating operations.

“Last year we first introduced Sintesis eXcellent chillers that are compatible with R-1234ze. Today, Trane is taking a significant step forward by offering building owners a broad and unique portfolio to balance their priorities of environmental sustainability, unit efficiency and reliability,” said Jose La Loggia, vice president and general manager of Trane in Europe. “Trane is committed to providing new, efficient and environmentally responsible products to exceed our customers’ expectations, while also working to meet the goals we set in 2014 around our global Climate Commitment – the EcoWise portfolio, inclusive of these new offerings, is an example of that coming to life.”

The Trane portfolio featuring R-1234ze refrigerant now consists of a full range of screw and high speed centrifugal chillers designed for medium capacity applications between 240 kilowatts (kW) and 1670kW. Trane centrifugal chillers with the R-1233zd refrigerant cover the large capacity requirements of up to 14000kW. Combined, this is the widest portfolio of chillers on the European market available with near-zero GWP refrigerants to suit a wide variety of climate and process cooling applications including hotels, hospitals, data centres, office buildings and industries like pharmaceutical or food and beverage.

With the new XStream and Sintesis chillers featuring the near-zero GWP refrigerant, building owners and operators can count on more points for the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) certification. The new chillers will also enhance the heating capabilities of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, as the full heating capacity can be delivered at 85 degrees Celsius. This allows the operators to increase the sustainability of their operations by expanding the application field for the use of renewable energy.

Ingersoll Rand Climate Commitment
Ingersoll Rand made a Climate Commitment to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its products and operations by 2030. The Ingersoll Rand Climate Commitment pledges to:

  • Cut the GHG refrigerant footprint of its products by 50 percent by 2020 and incorporate lower-GWP alternatives across its portfolio by 2030;
  • Invest $500 million in product-related research and development by 2020 to fund the long-term reduction of GHG emissions; and
  • Reduce company operations-related GHG emissions by 35 percent by 2020.

The company’s Climate Commitment has supported the avoidance of approximately 6.7 million metric tons of CO2e globally, which is the equivalent of avoiding annual CO2 emissions from energy used in more than 700,000 homes. By 2030, the company expects to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 million metric tons.
