Timberland Addresses Future Sustainability Leaders at Patagonia’s Worn Wear College Tour
Last week, global outdoor lifestyle brand Timberland joined a panel discussion as part of Patagonia’s Worn Wear College Tour, hosted at the University of New Hampshire in collaboration with the UNH Sustainability Institute. Nearly 400 students attended the panel at which Timberland shared its perspective on the challenges and successes that come with the brand’s longstanding commitment to create responsible products and protect the outdoors.
Timberland’s director of sustainability, Colleen Vien, joined Betsy Blaisdell, vice president of product for the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Amy Hall, director of social consciousness for Eileen Fisher, and Stewart Sheppard, director of fabrics sustainability for W.L. Gore on the “Businesses as Agents of Change” panel. The panel focused on innovative ways sustainability business leaders are reducing their environmental footprint, including reshaping the industry to eliminate excess waste and encouraging consumers to invest in responsible products that are made to last. Vien discussed Timberland’s initiatives designed to contribute toward a circular economy, including Timberland Tires, which are designed and manufactured to be recycled into shoe outsoles after their road life is complete.
“It’s always inspiring to address our future leaders and to guide them along the path of sustainability,” says Colleen Vien. “Partnering with our colleagues across the apparel industry demonstrates our commitment to the future, and how forming these relationships can make a real impact on our planet over time.”
