St. Louis Green Business Challenge Recognizes Trane for Advancing Sustainable Business Challenges
ST. LOUIS, Feb. 9, 2016 /3BL Media/ - The St. Louis Green Business Challenge recently recognized the Bridgeton, Missouri, office of Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand with an Award of Merit as a top performer for its adoption of green business practices.
The St. Louis Green Business Challenge is a network of St. Louis-area businesses adopting sustainable business practices during a self-scored, year-long event. It is a partnership of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Missouri Botanical Garden. The challenge recognized the Trane team at its 2015 Challenge award ceremony, held on Jan. 22 at the St. Louis Zoo.
Led by Mara Ferlisi, parts identification technician for Trane, the Trane National Distribution Center in Bridgeton, Missouri, increased its sustainability score from 65 to 200 points during 2015 through a combination of operational improvements, increased employee engagement and expanded community outreach.
“Trane is committed to best practices in sustainability,” said Ferlisi. “The challenge gave us a lot of great ideas on improvements that we didn’t even know we were missing and enabled us to collaborate to make a difference throughout the year.”
The various activities focused on green business practices and sustainability that the team Trane team in Bridgeton, Missouri, during 2015 included:
- Completing four highway clean-ups of a half mile stretch of land that Trane has “adopted” from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
- Diverting trash from the landfill at the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games by working with their “4 A Greener Game” program.
- Completing an onsite Earth Week Challenge which enabled employees to earn points for prizes by completing activities. Activities included increasing outdoor exercise, a recycling drive and an accompanying educational effort about what can be recycled, and local school outreach to educate students about recycling.
- Employees also completed a recycling quiz to test their new knowledge. Other activities included planting flowers around the Trane campus and hosting an onsite speaker who educated the staff about sustainability. Employees also had the opportunity to submit photos of green acts completed at home for additional points. The office also installed water bottle refilling stations and implemented a recycled material policy for janitorial paper products.
