Republic Services Spreads Cheer to Healthcare Workers, Young Patients

PHOENIX, June 9, 2020 / 3BL Media/ -- Through its charitable foundation, Republic Services supported the delivery of nearly 800 care packages to healthcare workers and hospitalized children in Atlanta, Boston, Memphis, Phoenix, Seattle and St. Louis.

Republic Services provided the care packages to seven hospitals through a partnership with Cheeriodicals, which assembled the gifts and arranged delivery. Republic Services is Cheeriodicals’ first corporate partner to provide care packages to both healthcare workers and pediatric patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Republic Services is proud to be able to support our local hospitals and say thank you, from one essential services provider to another,” said Catharine Ellingsen, president of the Republic Services Charitable Foundation and executive vice president of Republic Services. “We are grateful for the opportunity to bring some cheer to the frontline healthcare workers who are helping take care of our communities as well as children who are facing illnesses during this time.”

The children’s care boxes, containing a plush toy, crafts, activity books and games were delivered to 328 pediatric patients at Banner Thunderbird Children’s Medical Center in Glendale, Ariz.; Franciscan Children’s in Boston; Mercy Children’s Hospital St. Louis, and Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Another 450 “Hospital Heroes” tote bags filled with comfort items including snacks, tea and bath goods were delivered to workers at the VA Boston Healthcare System, St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Franciscan Children’s, Seattle Children’s, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The grandmother of a young patient in St. Louis shared a photo and message from the family: “My grandson received one of your gift boxes. He had just returned to his room after some tests. The smile on his face rivaled the sun! Great program!”

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta shared thanks on behalf of its Emergency Department staff:

“The bags and items inside are of such quality and were very well received. It was great to watch the staff pick out a bag and get excited when they saw everything inside. It is clear a lot of love and thought went into these. It was a perfect treat to their day!”
