NEWARK, N.J., December 5, 2015 /3BL Media/ - Prudential Financial, Inc. today announced an $870,000 commitment to the El Paso, Texas community. With this investment, Prudential will provide human and financial resources to create a skilled math and technology workforce, specifically targeting Latino students, veterans and military spouses.

The announcement was made as part of a day-long celebration to honor 10 El Paso “Hometown Heroes” for their contributions to the community.

Since the opening of its El Paso Business and Technology Solutions Center last year, Prudential has aimed to empower veterans and military spouses by fostering and leveraging their talent in the workplace. It also has provided quality jobs for other members of the greater El Paso community and worked with the El Paso chapter of Workforce Opportunity Services, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a proven track record of creating work/study programs, to recruit and train veterans and military families for job opportunities at Prudential El Paso.

Prudential will work with a range of strategic partners, including local businesses, community groups and educational institutions, to bring additional skill-building opportunities to El Paso. Among the many organizations joining this effort are the University of Texas at El Paso, The Borderplex Alliance, and El Paso Community College.

“El Paso is a community with a strong spirit of collaboration and limitless opportunity,” said Lata Reddy, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility at Prudential and president of The Prudential Foundation. “Through local partnerships, we hope to further strengthen the community, open new doors to education and employment for its residents, and position Prudential as El Paso’s employer of choice.”

With new education and training opportunities, El Pasoans will be better prepared to apply for the growing number jobs that require backgrounds in math and technology.  And over the long-term, Prudential and other El Paso businesses will have an increasingly strong and diverse pool of talent from which to hire.

“With Prudential’s support, we will lead a local team to help increase education opportunities in math and science for El Paso residents, particularly for Latino students, veterans and military spouses,” said Rolando Pablos, CEO of The Borderplex Alliance. “Latinos have historically not been represented well in math and technology fields and we see a huge opportunity to fill this gap by providing postsecondary education and employment opportunities.”

El Pasoans share a selfless commitment to serve the needs of others. That spirit was celebrated through the “Saluting Our Hometown Heroes” campaign, a partnership between Prudential and media company Entravision.  The 10 Hometown Heroes honored today demonstrate the important role that everyone can play in helping to build a strong community.
