#NowOrNeverglades Movement Gains Momentum
Here’s How You Can Help - By: Phil Monahan

Although most of the algae is gone and the St. Lucie River is running clear again, the growing movement to fix the hydrology of South Florida and send more water to the Everglades continues apace. Organizations such as Captains for Clean Water, Bullsugar.org, and The Everglades Foundation have been working with legislators to build support for Florida Senate Bill 10, which calls for the purchase of 60,000 acres of land south of the lake to build a reservoir to hold excess water, which will reduces discharges to the coasts.
It’s important that we don’t take our eye off the ball, or we’ll end up in the same place we started. Here’s how you can help:
- Sign the #NowOrNeverglades Declaration.
- Join Captains for Clean Water, The Everglades Foundation, and/or Bullsugar.Org. (Captains for Clean Water is giving away some cool, free gifts for new members.)
- If you are a Florida resident, send a message to legislators to support SB10 and HB 761.
- On April 11, head to Tallahassee for #NowOrNeverglades Sportfishing Day for a chance to meet with Representatives and Senators and remind them how important Florida’s Everglades and Estuaries are to our businesses and quality of life.
