New OSHA Deadline Is Imminent
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been implementing the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) in order to improve worker safety.
Many of the deadlines have now passed, however one date is about to come into effect. According an article published on the OSHA website, on June 1, 2016, employers will be required to “Update alternative workplace labeling and hazard communication program as necessary, and provide additional employee training for newly identified physical or health hazards”, this is indicative of the increasing safety standards for employees who work with or around chemicals.
The article also mentioned that the new measures will most likely put a stop to about 500 injuries and around 43 fatalities on an annual basis. The implemented changes are expected to affect roughly 43 million workers and around 5 million employment sites throughout the country.
