Legg Mason Employees Show Community Pride on September 11th, National Day of Service
Legg Mason employees in two of our U.S. offices participated in the National Day of Service to honor the 14th anniversary of September 11th.
In our headquarters location, volunteers from eight corporations – BGE, CareFirst, Constellation, Legg Mason, T. Rowe Price, Under Armour, Wells Fargo and Transamerica – joined to work on projects in the Darley Park neighborhood of Baltimore City, an area in need of community resources.
One of the organizations committed to improving this neighborhood is The 6th Branch. They are creating a national model of a Veteran Sponsored Community, utilizing the leadership and organizational skills of military veterans to execute aggressive community service initiatives at the local level.
More than 200 volunteers worked on various projects, including a field day with students from a local elementary school, mural painting, construction of picnic tables and flower boxes, greenspace revitalization and helping with the overall clean-up of the community.
Employees in Stamford, Connecticut set up large camouflage boxes in their office to serve as “Supply Depots” for the Homes for the Brave supply drive. They collected more than 740 items worth approximately $1,500.00. Volunteers from the firm’s newly launched Veterans Employee Resource Group, delivered the items to the facility, met with several of the residents and toured the house.
The Homes for the Brave organization opened their doors in 2002 and provide housing, vocational training and job placement, mental health and addiction services, and life skills coaching to veterans. Veterans represent 1/3 of the homeless adult population in America, and at least 950 in Connecticut alone.
