Joanne Jaxtimer to Receive Cornerstone of Equality Award from Greater Boston PFLAG
BOSTON, March 31, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Joanne Jaxtimer, BNY Mellon New England Regional Executive, will receive the Cornerstone of Equality award at Greater Boston PFLAG’s Pride and Passion Gala, which will be held on Thursday, April 3 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston. Greater Boston PFLAG gives the award to “individuals who inspire love and acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.” Jaxtimer is being honored for her commitment to equality and history of creating and supporting programs that serve socially diverse populations.
“Joanne is an ardent and passionate supporter of our mission and has championed our work on behalf of young people who are marginalized or rejected because of their actual or perceived sexual orientation and/or gender identity,” said Thomas Bourdon, president of Greater Boston PFLAG. “With remarkable energy and enthusiasm, she has embraced our efforts and advocated for our programs to be implemented in schools and in the workplace.”
In her role as Regional Executive for BNY Mellon in New England, Jaxtimer directs charitable giving, sponsorship and community partnership programs. She is also responsible for facilitating new business opportunities and directing local government relations activities. Internally, her role includes building a corporate culture that promotes employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, and reinforces BNY Mellon as an employer of choice in the region. In 2013, under her stewardship, BNY Mellon awarded more than $400,000 to Boston-area organizations in support of programs with an LGBT focus.

Jaxtimer is a past Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Boston Municipal Research Bureau, and also serves on the boards of A Better City, Dress for Success Boston, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, New England Council, and Special Olympics Massachusetts. In addition she serves on the Tufts Medical Center Board of Governors. Jaxtimer is active in a variety of community organizations including Best Buddies, the Greater Boston Food Bank, PFLAG and the YWCA, which selected her to join the Academy of Women Achievers Class of 2001. She graduated from Newton College of the Sacred Heart with a B. A. in Psychology.
