Ingersoll Rand Recognized by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for Climate Change Leadership
Ingersoll Rand to accept the company’s second Climate Leadership Award at the 5th annual Climate Leadership Conference
DAVIDSON, N.C., March 10, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR), a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments, was recognized yesterday by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other prominent climate organizations for its exemplary leadership in addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
At the Climate Leadership Conference in Seattle, Washington, the EPA, along with the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) and The Climate Registry (TCR), awarded Ingersoll Rand with the Organizational Leadership Award. This award recognizes organizations for notable internal GHG management and reduction, response to climate change and leadership in engaging their supply chains and external stakeholders on these issues.
“We are honored to be recognized for our ongoing commitment to lowering our GHG footprint across our operations and our product portfolio,” said Gary Michel, senior vice president and president, Residential HVAC and co-chair of the company’s advisory council on sustainability. “Through our Climate Commitment, operational goals and innovative product initiatives, we are doing our part to address climate change and to lower the unsustainable demand on energy resources.”
This is the second Climate Leadership Award Ingersoll Rand has received. In 2012, the company was recognized by the EPA for its aggressive targets to reduce GHG emissions with the Excellence in GHG Management Goal Setting Certificate.

Ingersoll Rand Climate Commitment
Ingersoll Rand, a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments, announced in 2014 the company’s Climate Commitment to reduce GHG emissions from its products and operations by 2030. The Ingersoll Rand Climate Commitment pledged to:
- Cut the refrigerant GHG footprint of its products by 50% by 2020 and incorporate lower global warming potential (GWP) alternatives across its portfolio by 2030;
- Invest $500 million in product-related research and development over the next five years to fund the long-term reduction of GHG emissions; and
- Reduce company operations-related GHG emissions by 35% by 2020.
To date, the company’s Climate Commitment has supported the avoidance of approximately 2 million metric tons of CO2e globally, which is the equivalent of avoiding annual CO2 emissions from energy used in more than 270,000 homes and more than 2.1 billion pounds of coal burned. By 2030, the company expects to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 million metric tons.
