Huntsman Joint Venture Rubicon Named “Best in Louisiana” Winner
The Woodlands, TX, December 13, 2011 /3BL Media/ - The Woodlands, Texas– Huntsman Corporation (NYSE: HUN) today announced that Rubicon, a joint venture that manages production assets owned by Huntsman and Chemtura Corporation, earned the Louisiana Chemical Association’s (LCA) “Best in Louisiana” distinction for its facility in Geismar, La. The chemical production plant was recognized for its commitment to superior safety, environmental performance and community involvement.
Located in Ascension Parish, Rubicon was designated “Best in Louisiana” among its LCA peers (Class Four facilities – with more than 400 employees) that competed in this year's Serious About Fostering Excellence (SAFE) program. LCA has 58 member companies operating more than 80 manufacturing sites across the state. Based on safety and environmental compliance information submitted to state and federal regulatory agencies, the SAFE awards also took into account facilities’ abilities to demonstrate significant involvement in their surrounding communities.
“Everyone at the Geismar facility is honored and pleased to be selected for this award,” said Mark Dearman, Rubicon General Manager and Director of Operations, Huntsman Polyurethanes Americas. “We place the highest importance on safety, environmental responsibility and community engagement, and we are committed to maintaining a culture of environmental, health, and safety excellence for many years to come.”
The Huntsman assets located at the Geismar site, include methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and polyols units for the Americas Polyurethanes Division, and a maleic anhydride unit for the Americas Performance Products Division.
The plant spends more than $40 million annually on environmental, health and safety compliance and environmental improvement performance. It has been certified as an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) VPP Star worksite since 2003, and earned the Star of Excellence in 2010 for an outstanding employee safety record. It has been recognized repeatedly over the years for excellence in environmental and safety performance by national industry associations including the National Petrochemical and Refining Association (NPRA), International Loss Control Institute and the Chemical Manufacturers Association (now the American Chemistry Council).
