If you’re still looking for a way to recycle all those holiday cards, why not give them to St. Jude’s Ranch For Children, a nonprofit home for abused, abandoned and neglected children - and see just how much good you can do.
Through February 28, 2010, you can mail your used holiday greeting cards to St. Jude's Ranch for Children’s card recycling program, where they’ll be transformed into new cards by the kids who live there.
The kids attach a blank recycled paper back to the card, making them into new cards which they sell. They get paid for their work, so it benefits the kids as well as the community. Consumers buy eco-friendly recycled cards, kids earn a little green for their hard work and the earth is a little cleaner in the process.
St. Jude’s Ranch was started 40 years ago when Father Jack Adam, an Episcopal priest, created a safe haven for abused, abandoned and neglected children in Southern Nevada. Now also in Texas, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children has provided a safe, nurturing home and therapeutic residential treatment services to more than 1,000 children.
The card recycling program began about 30 years ago as a way to show appreciation to donors. The idea was to turn the previous year’s Christmas cards into "new" cards for the coming season.
What started out with just Christmas cards has grown and expanded to include many types of cards including general Christmas cards, religious Christmas cards, Easter cards, birthday cards, thank you cards, and all occasion greeting cards. And don’t forget you can also order a set of 10 cards for $8.
So if you have any greeting cards collecting dust around your house, why not package them up and send them where they’ll help a child in need.
