October 11, 2013 /3BL Media/ - October is Fair Trade month, and to celebrate, UNICEF USA's End Trafficking team will be speaking with leaders in the Fair Trade movement from +Equal Exchange and +Fairtrade America about the importance of Fair Trade and how it can help to empower communities and prevent human trafficking.
Many children are exploited and forced to work on cocoa plantations in countries in Africa and South America. While it is difficult to give quantitative data on child trafficking, UNICEF estimates that in Côte d’Ivoire alone approximately 200,000 children work on cocoa farms. By purchasing Fair Trade chocolate for Halloween, you can ensure that no slave or child labor was used in the production of your chocolate!
