GM Tops ENERGY STAR® Challenge for Industry Plants

General Motors has met the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Challenge for Industry by reducing energy intensity by an average of 23 percent at 31 plants – 22 of which are repeat achievers. Collectively they avoided more than 374,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases – the equivalent of electricity use by 56,049 homes in the United States annually.

ENERGY STAR® Challenge for Industry is a voluntary program designed to help companies reduce energy intensity by 10 percent within five years or less. Here is a list of GM plants meeting the challenge. An asterisk represents repeat recognition.

Brazil

  • Mogi Das Cruzes Stamping: 16 percent energy reduction, 39 tons CO2 avoided
  • Sao Caetano Do Sul Assembly: 15 percent, 3,123 tons

Canada

  • CAMI (Ontario) Assembly: 17 percent, 13,958 tons*
  • Oshawa (Ontario) Assembly: 11 percent, 41,384 tons*
  • Oshawa (Ontario) Stamping: 20 percent, 2,109 tons*
  • St. Catherines (Ontario) Engine: 15 percent, 9,838 tons*

China

  • Jinqiao South Assembly: 13 percent, 15,563 tons*
  • Jinqiao Powertrain: 14 percent, 6,566 tons

India

  • Talegaon Engine: 28 percent, 3,045 tons

Mexico

  • San Luis Potosi Assembly: 30 percent, 6,766 tons*
