GM Scales Autonomous Vehicle Fleet to 180 Electric Cars
GM is using mass-production methods to manufacture 130 fully electric Chevrolet Bolt EV test vehicles equipped with self-driving technology at an assembly plant in Michigan. These vehicles will join the 50 already deployed in San Francisco, Scottsdale and metro Detroit. GM is testing these self-driving cars and collecting real-world data, ensuring they meet the company’s strict safety and quality standards.
GM and its Cruise Automation team have been testing autonomous Chevrolet Bolt EVs on public roads in San Francisco and Scottsdale, Arizona since June 2016 and on public roads in Warren, Michigan since January 2017. The cars feature LIDAR, cameras, sensors and other hardware designed to accelerate development of a safe and reliable fully autonomous vehicle.
“This production milestone brings us one step closer to making our vision of personal mobility a reality,” said GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra.
The development of self-driving cars support GM aspirations, from mobility for everyone to advancing zero-emissions vehicles. For more information, visit the company’s sustainability report.
