Forest Hills Debuts New Recycling Program with Recyclebank
Community follows the footsteps of seven North Hills Council of Governments communities with program that inspires and rewards residents for smarter, everyday choices toward a more sustainable future.
Forest Hills Borough, Pa., January 19, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Forest Hills Borough today announced the launch of a new recycling program with Recyclebank, the company that inspires and rewards smarter, everyday choices for a more sustainable future. Forest Hills joins seven other Pittsburgh metro area communities from the North Hills Council of Governments, who also partner with Recyclebank in their commitment toward helping the environment and creating a more sustainable outlook.
Brought to Forest Hills by Waste Management, the program will educate residents on how to live more sustainably and reward them with products, discounts and deals when they take everyday green actions, such as recycling.
To participate in the program and begin earning points for home recycling, residents must register for an account at www.Recyclebank.com and verify their home address. Once a Recyclebank member, they earn points each time their recycling is collected. Members earn points based on the average weight collected along their route.
“We’re proud to further our commitment to environmental quality and partner with Recyclebank to reward our community for its recycling efforts,” said Markus Erbeldinger, Council President at Forest Hills Borough. “Forest Hills members looking to contribute to a more sustainable future will now be rewarded for doing so and provided the right education to strengthen their commitment to the environment. The economic benefits to local businesses, as well as to the municipality, make the program a win-win situation for the whole community.”
“We are excited to be launching the Recyclebank program in Forest Hills. At Recyclebank, we believe that individual actions towards sustainability can collectively make a huge impact on our environment. We’ve already seen this impact through the commitment and dedication toward creating a healthier environment that other Pittsburgh area communities have and know the residents of Forest Hills have the same drive,” said Samra Brouk, senior account manager, client services at Recyclebank. “We look forward to working with the community and rewarding residents for learning more about sustainability and taking everyday green actions.”
Recyclebank members earn points for taking green actions and learning more about how they can build a more sustainable future. They can then use those points to “shop” at Recyclebank.com for rewards like discounts and deals from local and national businesses as well as OneTwine, Recyclebank’s online shop for sustainable goods. Over the course of a year, an average family can earn hundreds of points that can be redeemed for special rewards; this translates into real value — more than $165 per household per year— for families in Forest Hills.
With this partnership, Forest Hills not only joins the seven communities in the Pittsburgh area, but more than 300 communities across the U.S. that have implemented Recyclebank to help increase recycling rates through incentives and reward residents with deals on everyday household and grocery items. In addition to significant environmental benefits, increased recycling also has a positive impact on municipal finances through disposal cost savings and revenues from the sale of recyclables.
