DREAM BIG: Engineering Our World Opened Worldwide on Feb. 17
Bechtel, a global leader in engineering, procurement, and construction, in partnership with film producer MacGillivray Freeman Films (MFF) and the American Society of Civil Engineers is supporting a new IMAX 3-D film, DREAM BIG: Engineering Our World. On Feb. 15, Bechtel and its partners hosted a World Premiere at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum Lockheed Martin IMAX Theater in Washington, DC. The film was released on Feb. 17 at movie theaters and science centers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and it is designed to inspire children in grades K-12.
CEO Brendan Bechtel suggested that the project is a “game-changer in the way we promote engineering.” A film can tell “vivid stories about how we use the skills of engineering” to improve the world, he said at the film’s premiere.
Also, Bechtel is working closely with nonprofit partner DiscoverE (formerly known as the National Engineers Week Foundation), to extend science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) educational opportunities to local communities, teachers and K-12 students. As such, students, teachers, volunteers, and museums can find content to expand the concepts in the film on DiscoverE’s website. Throughout the coming weeks and months, in locations around the world, Bechtel offices will hold film screenings followed by engineering activities and panel discussions with thousands of students, who the company hopes will be inspired to pursue STEM-related careers.
Bechtel has a long history of advancing STEM-related opportunities for students through the Bechtel Group Foundation and by increasing its partners’ reach and scale through the volunteer support of thousands of employees. These efforts include long-term partnerships with Engineers Without Borders, FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), and Junior Achievement Worldwide.
