Domtar Self-Generates More Energy and Uses More Renewable Energy Than the Industry Average
Highlights from Domtar’s 2016 Sustainability Update
In 2015, 73 percent of Domtar's electrical power requirements were met through cogeneration or on-site hydropower generation, providing environmental, cost and reliability benefits.
Due to the high share of biomass fuel and cogenerated electricity production in our pulp and paper manufacturing processes, Domtar's use of renewable energy is also significant. In 2015, 75 percent of the energy we used in our pulp and papermaking manufacturing processes came from renewable energy sources (this is net of 3% sold in renewable energy marketplaces).
Sustainability at Domtar is our endeavor to take a longer-term view of creating and preserving shareholder value. We accomplish this by considering how we respond to and contribute to emerging opportunities and risks in the world around us. Our 2016 Sustainability Update provides insight into our priorities on the journey towards becoming a more sustainable business.
