Domtar is Proud of its Sustainable Forestry Progress in 2016
Highlights from Domtar’s 2016 Sustainability Update
At Domtar, we aim to increase our supply of certified fiber by remaining committed to implementing and maintaining Chain-of-Custody certification to recognized third-party standards, namely the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®), and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification™ (PEFC™). While Domtar has a preference for FSC where available, we will continue to utilize fiber from multiple certification schemes. To this end, in 2015, 29 percent of the wood fiber used by our pulp and paper mills met the requirements of at least one forest certification standard.
Additionally, Four States Timberland Owners Association (FSTOA), a partnership between private landowners and Domtar’s Ashdown, AR Mill reached the milestone of certifying more than 500,000 acres of timber to FSC standards. Domtar has helped guide this effort in an area where small, private landowners hold the titles to 75 percent of the available timberland.
By working together with a range of forest stakeholders and investing in forest management practices that focus on the long term, Domtar is helping ensure we can all continue to enjoy those benefits for many generations to come.
