Cox Commits $1M to Support Civil and Human Rights
At Cox, we have felt the pain and anguish of the communities where we do business and our nation over the past week.
People should not live their lives in fear, simply because of the color of their skin. We know African-Americans, including many of our own employees, are afraid for their lives and the lives of their children. No one should have to raise a child in fear. No one should suffer mental anguish, physical violence, or death – such as in the case of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor or countless others before them – because of racism and discrimination.
Every American deserves justice under the law. There is no place for hate of any kind in our society. Racism still pervades our society but at Cox, we believe equal rights are the foundation of a free and just society. We believe in human rights, justice, and empowering our communities through investment – not only money, but also kindness and compassion.
Our company has a long history of supporting organizations committed to inclusion and diversity, including the African-American community. Today, we have established a $1 million fund to help organizations that support social justice and civil and human rights. We plan to have open dialogue and engage with our employees through town halls and forums, and gather their feedback on where to donate. We want to empower them to go into their communities and forge new relationships, bring about positive change and provide support for those brave enough to make a difference.
We know this is a first step and we pledge to do more, both within our company and in our communities.
