Cascades Boxboard Group – Jonquière and Cascades Transport Inc. Winners of the 2013 Energia Awards
Kingsey Falls, February 7, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Cascades Boxboard Group – Jonquière and Cascades Transport Inc. were both awarded prizes at the 24th Energia Awards ceremony. The Bureau de l’efficacité et de l’innovation énergétiques (BEIE) presented the prestigious award to the Jonquière plant for optimizing the performance of its biomass boiler, while Cascades Transport Inc. was recognized in the Transportation category for its energy policy.
The Cascades Boxboard Group – Jonquière entered the contest with its biomass boiler optimization project, which consists in producing as much steam as possible using bark, while consuming less electricity and releasing less ash into the atmosphere. The optimization resulted in an increase in steam production using biomass, a lower gas bill, and energy savings of approximately $500,000 annually, as well as a reduction in atmospheric emissions of 36 tonnes of ash per year.
Cascades Transport Inc. was recognized for its energy policy that establishes objectives for reducing the use of fossil fuels through concrete actions, such as monitoring driving habits, regular vehicle maintenance and tire management. The aerodynamic design of its trucks, including tank covers and side skirts, as well as deflectors in the cabin roof, allow Cascades Transport Inc. to further reduce its fuel consumption.
