Sustainability Reports

Long before sustainability became a topic of widespread interest, Kimberly-Clark sought to continuously improve the way we run our business, socially, environmentally and economically. This commitment is one of the reasons Kimberly-Clark has earned the trust and respect of people around the world for more than 140 years.

Our vision to lead the world in the essentials for a better life is not limited to the products we provide. It also calls us to deliver them in ways that prioritize clean air and water, healthy forests and strong communities, while delivering shareholder value.

New Channel for Recycling Gets Great Reception
Floor to ceiling garbage bags, rows of waste bins and an old warehouse may not depict an art museum at first glance, but it’s a place Carolina Lizano Fernández calls beautiful.

As the corporate social responsibility coordinator for Kimberly-Clark’s Central America & Caribbean region, Lizano acts as a museum curator of sorts. She helps manage AmbientaDOS, a recycling program that has transformed light bulbs, bottle caps, paperboard and other discarded material into jewelry, ornaments and colorful lamps – among other new things.

Forging Partnerships to Promote Responsible Forestry
Perhaps you’ve seen it on a box of tissues, package of toilet paper or roll of paper towels – a small symbol containing the familiar outline of a tree, a check mark and three letters: FSC.

This logo belongs to the Forest Stewardship Council, an independent, non-government organization whose purpose is to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. The symbol lets people know a particular paper product comes from sustainably managed sources, and when consumers choose FSC–labeled products, it sends a message to manufacturers that there is demand for more environmentally friendly products.

Unleashing the Power of Our People to Save Energy
In 2012, the Sitio del Niño tissue mill in El Salvador drew the attention of Kimberly-Clark Product Supply leaders from around the world.

In the preceding months, the mill had become famous for delivering a five percent reduction in energy use and $1.5 million in cost savings, all with less than a $0.5 million investment.
