Amway Japan Remembers Great East Japan Earthquake

It has been 5 years since a powerful earthquake off Japan’s main island caused massive damage on land and initiated a series of large tsunami waves that devastated many coastal areas of the country. On March 11, 2016 Amway Japan continues to “remember” that disastrous day – and joins its Japanese neighbors, and people around the world in continued support of the affected area and its full recovery.

Rather than a big event, this year all Amway Japan facilities observed a moment of silence and prayer at 2:46 pm. Local Amway Plazas also showed Remember HOPE videos all day and collected donations in exchange for a cup of soup. 

Amway Japan created the Remember HOPE project to continue their commitment to contributing to the recovery and rebirth of Tohoku and families living in the Tokohu district. Year-after-year Amway Japan partners with local citizens to build and bring to life community houses throughout the affected area.

To date, Amway has helped to erect 4 Amway Community Homes in the region. The homes serve as a hub of activity for children and families seeking a safe place to congregate and rebuild their bonds with one another. The most recent Amway Houses were built in 2015 – Nodamura, Iwate and Otsuchi, Iwate. Both Nodamura and Otsuchi have local shop areas in addition to a community house and are named Remember HOPE Village. Shops for these facilities are currently under construction and will be opening this spring.

The ultimate goal is to build up to a dozen Amway Community Houses. Amway executives and Amway distributor leaders are leading the way to raise funds through individual and corporate donations. Their fundraising, along with the faithful Amway volunteers who maintain the centers and support its programs, make these communities of refuge possible to the families who not only “remember”, but will never forget.
