3M Advances Its ESG Commitments

At 3M, we think, work and act to drive meaningful societal change that endures. We hold ourselves accountable to create change through our commitments.

We continue to drive our company forward within environmental, social and governance areas as we reimagine what is possible to help create a brighter future for the world:

• Environmental: In 2021, we advanced our leadership with a $1 billion commitment to achieve carbon neutrality, reduce water use, improve water quality and reduce our use of plastics. We have put forward ambitious goals to bend the curve – for example, a 20% water reduction by 2025 and 50% carbon reduction by 2030 – while delivering on pledges to make our factories and communities more sustainable.
• Social: We continue to take actions and provide meaningful investments that will enable 3M to build a strong foundation for equitable outcomes in the future. We are progressing our talent recruitment strategies and processes to build a workforce that has future-focused skillsets and reflects the diversity of our customers, suppliers and communities. In 2021, we are proud to share that 3M has achieved pay equity across all of our global regions.
• Governance: 3M continues to act with unwavering integrity and transparency. We believe that good corporate governance practices serve the long-term interests of all stakeholders, strengthen the Board and management, and further enhance the public trust 3M has earned for nine years in a row as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies as rated by the Ethisphere Institute.

In May, 3M will also launch our new Global Impact Report – a combination of our Annual, Sustainability, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion reports. The Global Impact Report allows our stakeholders to see a more complete picture of the value 3M places on our commitments and includes our 2021 progress.
